going away for a comeback

| Today I heard another inspiring human story. The protagonist is a married young man. One day, however, he finds himself a divorced young man. Time passes and he is not sure whether he should commit himself to a new relationship. He wants to take time for himself. So he makes a plan, packs his bags, and goes away.* |
| He makes a long journey around the world by bicycle. He sets off on his journey alone, but often ends up travelling in company. He follows the course of rivers as he heads towards the Middle-East. Let’s say he returns after a little more than a year. Now he finds that he is ready for a new relationship.
He tells me he knew that he was going to come back when he left. He also knew where he wanted to come back. Then I ask myself, how universal is going away for a comeback? |
| *At this point we notice the universal element. In order to get rid of the past, we change the physical environment. New hair colour, new apartment, new country, new habits. But will these make the past go? What is the role of the past in our everyday actions? |
